Amapiano remains one of the most vibrant and influential African genres in 2026. The log-drum driven sound continues to dominate playlists, TikTok trends, and festival stages across the continent and beyond.
Here is the latest update on some of the key kings and queens driving the movement.
Uncle Waffles & Focalistic – “2 Spin Jikeleza”
One of the most anticipated Amapiano collaborations of the year, “2 Spin Jikeleza” by Focalistic and Uncle Waffles (with Shaun Musiq) was scheduled for release on 7 August 2026. The track unites two of the genre’s most energetic and popular figures and has generated major pre-release buzz.
Uncle Waffles continues to stand out as one of the most exciting performers in Amapiano, known for high-energy DJ sets and strong stage presence. Focalistic remains a consistent hitmaker with street and club appeal.
Kabza De Small – New Album Tutu Incoming
The self-proclaimed King of Amapiano is preparing to drop his new album Tutu, scheduled for late August 2026 (around 27–28 August). After previous projects and strong SAMA recognition earlier in the year, expectations are high for another landmark release from one of the genre’s foundational producers.
MaWhoo & Zee Nxumalo – The Vocal Queens
Female vocalists continue to play a massive role in Amapiano’s emotional depth. MaWhoo has established herself as one of the golden voices of the sound, frequently collaborating with top producers. Zee Nxumalo remains highly active, appearing on many of the year’s strongest releases and mixes.
Both artists help give Amapiano its soulful, melodic character alongside the hard-hitting log drums.
Other Key Figures Still Dominating
- DJ Maphorisa – Continues to shape the sound as both producer and curator.
- Kelvin Momo – Known for deeper, more atmospheric piano-driven tracks.
- Boohle and other consistent vocal collaborators remain central to the scene.
The State of Amapiano in 2026
The genre shows no signs of slowing down. It continues to evolve with new sub-styles while maintaining the core elements that made it a global force — infectious percussion, soulful vocals, and pure dance energy.
From major festival stages to weekly street mixes, Amapiano remains essential listening.
